When people first hear about Reiki, one of the most common questions is: what does it actually feel like? It’s a fair question, especially if you’ve never experienced energy healing before.
At The Little Reiki Shed, offering Reiki in Tunbridge Wells, and London, I often meet clients who feel curious but unsure. Reiki can sound mysterious, but the experience itself is beautifully simple, gentle, and deeply relaxing.
A Sense of Calm from the Moment You Arrive
Many clients notice a shift as soon as they step into the treatment space. The outside world begins to fade, and the body starts to soften. This initial sense of calm is an important part of the process. Reiki isn’t something that’s “done” to you—it’s something your body responds to naturally.
Once you’re settled comfortably, fully clothed, the session begins. You might be lying down or seated, with blankets and cushions to help you relax completely.
Warmth, Tingling, and Energy Flow
During a Reiki treatment, I gently place my hands either lightly on or just above your body, moving through different energy points. Many people report feeling warmth—sometimes quite intense heat—coming from the hands.
Others describe tingling sensations, waves of energy, or a feeling of gentle pulsing. These sensations are simply signs that energy is flowing to where it’s needed most.
Some clients feel very little physically, and that’s absolutely fine too. Reiki works whether you feel sensations or not. The body is always receiving exactly what it needs.
A Deep Meditative State
One of the most beautiful aspects of Reiki is how deeply relaxing it can be. It’s common to drift into a meditative state, somewhere between waking and sleeping. Thoughts may slow down, and the mind becomes quieter.
For some, this is the first time in a long while that they’ve truly switched off.
It’s not unusual to fall asleep during a session. In fact, it’s often a sign that your body feels safe enough to fully relax.
Visuals, Emotions, and Inner Awareness
Some people experience visualisations during Reiki—colours, light, or even images. Others may have memories surface or feel emotional release.
This isn’t something to worry about. Reiki works on physical, emotional, and energetic levels. If something needs to be released, it may gently come to the surface.
For others, the experience is simply peaceful and quiet, with no strong visuals or emotions. Every session is unique, and every experience is valid.
After the Session: A Subtle Shift
After a Reiki treatment, many clients describe feeling lighter, calmer, and more grounded. Some notice improved sleep, reduced stress, or a clearer mind in the days that follow.
It’s important to drink plenty of water and allow yourself time to rest afterwards. The energy continues to settle and integrate even after the session has ended.
There Is No “Right” Experience
One of the most important things to understand about Reiki is that there’s no right or wrong way to experience it. Whether you feel warmth, see colours, fall asleep, or simply enjoy a quiet hour, the energy is doing exactly what it needs to do.
If you’re curious about trying Reiki in Tunbridge Wells, and London, I warmly invite you to experience it for yourself. Sometimes the best way to understand Reiki is simply to feel it.
