What to Expect from Your First Reiki Session

If you’re thinking about booking your first Reiki session, it’s completely natural to feel a little unsure about what to expect.

At The Little Reiki Shed, offering Reiki in Tunbridge Wells, and London, my aim is to make your experience as comfortable, relaxing, and welcoming as possible.

Here’s a gentle guide to help you feel prepared.

Before Your Session

When you arrive, we’ll begin with a short conversation. This includes a brief questionnaire and a chance to talk about what’s currently going on for you.

You might have a specific intention—such as reducing stress or improving sleep—or you may simply want to relax. Both are absolutely fine.

This is your time, and the session is guided by your needs.

Getting Comfortable

You’ll remain fully clothed during the treatment, so it’s best to wear something loose and comfortable. You’ll be invited to lie down on a treatment couch or sit in a chair, depending on your preference.

Blankets and cushions are provided to ensure you feel warm and supported. Soft, relaxing music can also be played if you wish.

During the Treatment

The Reiki session typically lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. I will gently place my hands on or just above different areas of your body, focusing on energy points.

There is no pressure or manipulation involved. The touch is light and always discussed beforehand to ensure you’re comfortable.

During the session, you may experience warmth, tingling, or a deep sense of relaxation. Some people see colours or images, while others simply enjoy a peaceful rest.

There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki.

A Safe and Gentle Process

Reiki is a very safe and non-intrusive therapy. Occasionally, people may experience what’s known as a “healing response,” where emotions or sensations temporarily intensify.

This is simply the body processing and releasing what it no longer needs. It’s a natural part of the healing process and nothing to be concerned about.

After Your Session

Once the treatment is complete, you’ll have a moment to slowly come back to the room. We can discuss anything you experienced, although this is entirely optional.

Afterwards, it’s important to drink plenty of water and allow yourself time to rest. Your body will continue to integrate the energy over the next few days.

Many clients feel calmer, lighter, and more balanced after their session.

Building a Relationship with Reiki

For some, one session is enough to feel a shift. Others choose to have regular treatments to support ongoing wellbeing.

Reiki can become a valuable tool for managing stress, improving sleep, and reconnecting with yourself.

Taking the First Step

Trying something new can feel like a big step, but Reiki is one of the gentlest therapies you can experience.

If you’ve been curious about Reiki in Tunbridge Wells, and London, this could be the perfect time to explore it for yourself.

You don’t need to believe in Reiki for it to work—you simply need to be open to receiving it.
